Frequently Asked Questions
What Should I Consider Before Choosing New Flooring?
The right flooring depends on how you use the space, your lifestyle, design preferences and budget. During your free in-home consultation, your local Beare Flooring expert will help you compare suitable options, explain the benefits of each flooring type and recommend the right option for your home.
If you're still deciding which flooring is right for your home, view our full Flooring Range to compare carpet, hybrid flooring, timber flooring, vinyl flooring, laminate flooring and more.
Why Is An In-Home Flooring Consultation Better Than Visiting A Showroom?
Viewing flooring in your own home allows you to see how colours, textures and finishes look under your natural lighting and alongside your furniture, cabinetry and paint colours. It gives you the confidence to choose flooring that suits your space before making a decision.

What Happens During My Free Flooring Consultation?
Your local Beare Flooring expert will discuss your project, measure the areas, help you compare flooring options and answer any questions you have. In most cases, you'll also receive a detailed, itemised quote during your in-home appointment.
What Is Included In My Flooring Quote?
Your quote includes a clear breakdown of the flooring products you've selected, installation, trims, underlay where applicable and any other known project requirements discussed during your consultation. If additional work becomes necessary once the existing flooring has been removed, we'll explain the options and any associated costs before any work proceeds.
Do You Supply And Install Flooring?
Beare Flooring provides a complete flooring service, from your free in-home measure and quote through to professional installation. Your local flooring expert will help you choose the right flooring before our experienced installation teams complete the project to a professional standard.
How Long Does Flooring Installation Usually Take?
Installation time depends on the flooring type, the size of your project and whether any preparation work is required. Many installations are completed within one to three days, while larger or more complex projects may take longer. Your installer will provide an estimated timeframe before work begins.
Can New Flooring Be Installed While I'm Living In My Home?
Yes. Many flooring projects can be completed while you continue living in your home. Depending on the size of the project, installations can often be completed in stages to minimise disruption to your daily routine.
Can You Tell If My Floor Needs Preparation Before Installation?
Not always. While some potential issues may be identified during your in-home consultation, the condition of the substrate can't be fully assessed until the existing flooring has been removed. If any preparation is required before your new flooring is installed, your installer will discuss the work with you and explain any additional costs before proceeding.
How Soon Can My Flooring Be Installed?
Installation timeframes vary depending on your chosen flooring, product availability and your local installer's schedule. During your consultation, we'll provide an estimated timeframe.
What Happens After I Accept My Quote?
After you accept your quote and pay your 50% deposit, we'll place any required product orders and confirm your installation date. Your deposit secures your flooring and reserves your installation, so everything is ready for your project to move ahead.
How Should I Prepare My Home Before Installation?
Before installation, we recommend removing personal belongings, fragile items, smaller furniture, electrical cords and leads from the areas where work will be carried out. If your quote includes furniture assistance, our installation team will help move larger items as part of the installation. Your flooring expert will let you know if there is anything else you need to do before installation day.
What Guarantees Do You Offer?
We stand behind the quality of our workmanship with our Lifetime Installation Guarantee. If an installation issue arises due to workmanship, we'll inspect the issue and rectify it in accordance with the terms of our guarantee. Product warranties are provided by the manufacturer and vary between ranges.
What Is Carpet?
Carpet is a soft flooring solution made from woven or tufted fibres designed to provide comfort, warmth, and style throughout the home. Available in a wide range of colours, fibres, and pile styles, carpet remains one of the most popular flooring choices for Australian homes.
What Carpet Fibre Is Best?
The best carpet fibre depends on your lifestyle, budget, and the rooms being renovated. Solution dyed nylon is a popular choice for busy family homes due to its durability and stain resistance, while wool offers natural comfort and timeless appeal.
What Is Solution Dyed Nylon Carpet?
Solution dyed nylon is one of the most popular carpet fibres for Australian homes due to its durability, stain resistance, fade resistance, and ease of maintenance. It is commonly chosen for busy households, family living, and homes with pets.
What Carpet Style Is Best For Busy Family Homes?
The right carpet style depends on how your home is used. Textured cut pile carpets are often chosen for busy family living due to their durability, while plush carpets provide a softer, smoother feel. Loop pile carpets can also be a practical option in selected areas depending on lifestyle requirements.
Is Carpet Durable?
Yes. Modern carpet is designed to perform well in busy households when the right fibre and pile style are selected. Different products offer varying levels of durability depending on their construction and intended application.
Is Carpet Suitable For Homes With Pets?
Yes. Many modern carpet ranges are designed with durability and stain resistance in mind, making them a practical choice for homes with pets. Choosing the right fibre and carpet style can help improve long-term performance and make everyday maintenance easier.
What Carpet Colour Is Best?
The right carpet colour depends on your home's style, natural lighting, and lifestyle. Lighter colours can create a brighter, more open feel, while darker and multi-tonal carpets can help disguise everyday wear in busy households.
Is Carpet Good For Bedrooms?
Yes. Carpet remains one of the most popular flooring choices for bedrooms due to its warmth, comfort, and soft feel underfoot. It also helps reduce noise and creates a more relaxing living environment.
How Do I Maintain Carpet?
Regular vacuuming helps remove dust and debris, while prompt attention to spills can help maintain appearance. Periodic professional cleaning is also recommended to extend the life of your carpet and keep it looking its best.
Why Choose Carpet?
Carpet continues to be a popular flooring choice because it provides comfort, warmth, noise reduction, and a wide range of colours, fibres, and styles. With the right product selection, it creates a welcoming and practical foundation for modern Australian homes.
How Important Is Underlay For New Carpet?
Very. Underlay acts as your carpet’s shock absorber, making it softer underfoot, improving insulation and helping the pile handle everyday foot traffic. New carpet performs best on new underlay, as older underlay has already compressed into the previous carpet’s traffic patterns. Your flooring expert will recommend the right underlay for your rooms during your quote.
What Affects The Cost Of New Carpet?
Carpet pricing depends on the fibre, pile style and construction you choose, along with the underlay, the size and shape of your rooms and any preparation or furniture moving required. An itemised quote breaks each of these down clearly, making it easy to compare options and choose carpet that suits your budget.
Is Carpet Good For Stairs And Hallways?
Yes. Carpet is a popular choice for stairs and hallways because it softens footsteps, reduces noise and provides extra grip underfoot. These areas see the most foot traffic in a home, so durable options like textured cut pile or loop pile in a solution dyed fibre are well suited to the job.
How Long Does New Carpet Last?
Most well-made carpets last 10 to 15 years in a family home, and often longer in bedrooms where foot traffic is lighter. Fibre choice, pile density, underlay and regular vacuuming all play a part. When our mobile showrooms visit, our team can talk you through the expected wear of each range.
What Are Carpet Tiles?
Carpet tiles are individual modular sections of carpet that are installed together to create a complete floor. They provide excellent durability, design flexibility and easy maintenance, making them a popular commercial flooring solution.
Why Choose Carpet Tiles?
Carpet tiles are durable, comfortable underfoot, help reduce noise and allow damaged sections to be replaced individually. Their flexibility and long-term value make them ideal for many commercial environments.
Where Are Carpet Tiles Commonly Used?
They are commonly installed in offices, education facilities, healthcare environments, retail stores, hospitality venues, reception areas, government buildings and many other workplaces.
Are Carpet Tiles Suitable For High-Traffic Areas?
Yes. They are specifically designed for commercial environments and perform exceptionally well in busy workplaces with constant foot traffic.
Can Individual Tiles Be Replaced?
Yes. One of the major benefits of modular flooring is that individual tiles can often be replaced if they become damaged or stained, reducing maintenance costs.
Do Carpet Tiles Help Reduce Noise?
Absolutely. They absorb sound more effectively than many hard flooring surfaces, helping create quieter and more comfortable workplaces.
What Carpet Tile Styles Are Available?
Carpet tiles are available in a wide variety of colours, textures, plank and tile formats, allowing businesses to create both classic and contemporary workplace designs.
How Long Do Carpet Tiles Last?
Their lifespan depends on the product selected, the level of foot traffic and ongoing maintenance. High-quality commercial products are designed to provide many years of reliable performance.
Why Choose Beare Flooring?
Beare Flooring combines expert commercial flooring advice, quality products, professional installation and the convenience of our mobile showroom, bringing samples directly to your workplace so you can make a confident decision.
Are Carpet Tiles Easy To Install Yourself?
Carpet tiles are one of the simpler flooring formats to work with, but commercial spaces benefit from professional installation. Correct subfloor preparation, adhesive selection and laying pattern all affect how the finished floor looks and performs, so our experienced installers make sure the result is ready for a busy workplace.
Do Carpet Tiles Suit Home Offices?
Yes. Carpet tiles are a practical choice for home offices, providing comfort underfoot, reduced noise and a professional look. Because individual tiles can be replaced if damaged, they’re easy to keep looking fresh, and the range of colours and formats makes it simple to create a dedicated workspace feel.
What Affects The Cost Of Carpet Tiles?
Fibre type, pile construction, backing and the size of the area all influence the price of carpet tiles. Solution dyed nylon costs more than polypropylene but handles heavy foot traffic for longer. Our team brings samples and pricing to your workplace, so you can compare options side by side before you commit.
Can Hybrid Flooring Be Laid Over Tiles?
One of the major advantages of hybrid flooring is that it can often be installed directly over existing tiles, typically with little to no floor preparation required.
It is essential that the subfloor is level and stable before installation. Tile grout lines should be minimal, and the existing tiles should be well bonded with no drumming or movement.
Is Hybrid Flooring Better Than Laminate Flooring?
Both flooring types have benefits, however hybrid flooring is often chosen for its waterproof performance, rigid core construction, and improved stability.
Laminate flooring can be a practical option for some homes, but hybrid planks are commonly preferred for busy households and everyday family living.
Can Hybrid Flooring Be Installed On Stairs?
Yes. Hybrid flooring can be installed on staircases when the correct product and stair finishings are used.
Some of our ranges can be custom-made with bullnose (square edge) stair nosings, which are colour matched to your selected floor. These are professionally installed to create a clean, seamless, and durable feature staircase.
What Is Hybrid Flooring?
Hybrid flooring is a modern flooring solution that brings together the strengths of laminate flooring and products like vinyl flooring.
Designed for everyday living, hybrid floors are known for their durability, stability, and practical performance. In many cases, they offer scratch, stain, and fade resistance, while many ranges also provide waterproof or water-resistant surface protection.
Is Hybrid Flooring Waterproof?
Yes. Hybrid flooring is built with a waterproof rigid core and a fully waterproof surface, so spills, wet shoes and everyday mopping sit safely on top until they are wiped away. That makes it a practical choice for kitchens, laundries and busy family living.
What hybrid flooring cannot do is protect the subfloor beneath it. In events like a burst pipe or flooding, water can travel around the edges of the floor and underneath, so significant water events still need prompt attention even though the boards themselves are unharmed.
How Do I Clean My Hybrid Flooring?
Regular sweeping or vacuuming is the best way to remove dirt and debris from hybrid flooring.
For heavier cleaning, use a damp mop or cloth with a mild detergent. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive scrubbers, or excessive amounts of water.
While many hybrid flooring ranges offer water-resistant or waterproof surface performance, following the recommended care guidelines and cleaning spills promptly will help protect long-term performance.
Is Hybrid Flooring Suitable For Pets?
Hybrid flooring is often a strong choice for pet owners due to its durability, easy maintenance, and resistance to everyday wear.
Many hybrid planks are well suited to busy family homes where spills, mess, and regular foot traffic are common.
How Durable Is Hybrid Flooring?
Hybrid flooring is designed for durability and is well suited to everyday family living.
As with any flooring product, different hybrid ranges can vary in performance depending on construction, wear layer, and intended use. At Beare Flooring, we carefully select high-quality flooring solutions and can help guide you to the right product for your home.
What Is SPC Flooring?
SPC stands for Stone Polymer Composite, a rigid core material commonly used in hybrid flooring.
SPC flooring is known for its strength, structural stability, and hard-wearing performance, making it a popular choice for modern Australian homes.
Is Hybrid Flooring Better Than Vinyl Flooring?
Both flooring types offer practical benefits, however hybrid flooring is often chosen for its rigid core construction, improved stability, and firmer feel underfoot.
Vinyl flooring can offer flexibility and comfort, while hybrid planks are commonly preferred when homeowners want added durability and structural stability for everyday living.
Is Hybrid Flooring Suitable For Apartments And Units?
Yes. Hybrid flooring works well in apartments and units, and many ranges can be paired with acoustic underlay to meet body corporate noise requirements. If you live in a strata building, it’s worth checking the acoustic rating required before choosing your floor. Your local flooring expert can help you select a suitable option.
What Affects The Cost Of Hybrid Flooring?
Hybrid flooring pricing depends on the plank thickness, wear layer and core construction, along with the size of the area, subfloor preparation and any stair nosings or trims required. An itemised quote sets each of these out clearly, so you can compare ranges confidently and find a floor that suits your budget.
What Is Timber Flooring?
Timber flooring is made from real wood and is valued for its natural grain variation, warmth, and timeless appearance. Because timber is a natural product, no two boards are exactly the same, creating a unique and authentic finish throughout the home.
What Is Engineered Timber Flooring?
Engineered timber flooring features a real timber wear layer over a stable core construction. It offers the authentic look and feel of timber while providing improved dimensional stability for modern Australian homes.
Is Timber Flooring Durable?
Yes, timber flooring is known for its durability and long-term appeal when professionally installed and properly maintained. Different timber species, finishes, and constructions can perform differently depending on the home and level of foot traffic.
Is Timber Flooring Suitable For Australian Homes?
Timber flooring is well suited to Australian homes when the right product is selected and installed correctly. Engineered timber flooring is commonly chosen for its improved stability in changing temperatures and varying humidity levels.
How Do I Maintain Timber Flooring?
Regular sweeping or vacuuming keeps grit off the surface, and a well-wrung damp mop with a timber-safe cleaner handles deeper cleaning. Felt pads under furniture and door mats at entries help protect the finish. Like any natural surface, timber can scratch over time, so following the manufacturer’s care guide will keep your floor looking its best for years.
Is Timber Flooring Better Than Hybrid Flooring?
Both flooring types offer strong benefits, but they suit different priorities.
Timber flooring is often chosen for its authentic natural beauty, warmth, and long-term appeal, while hybrid flooring is commonly selected for practicality, lower maintenance, and waterproof performance.
Is Timber Flooring Better Than Laminate Flooring?
Both flooring types offer strong benefits, but they suit different homes, lifestyles, and budgets.
Timber flooring is often chosen for its authentic natural beauty, long-term appeal, and lasting quality, while laminate flooring is commonly selected as a practical, lower-cost timber-look flooring solution for modern homes.
Can Timber Flooring Be Installed In Living Areas And Bedrooms?
Yes, timber flooring is commonly installed throughout living spaces, bedrooms, hallways, and open-plan areas. Choosing the right timber flooring depends on the home, subfloor, and overall lifestyle requirements.
Does Timber Flooring Add Value To A Home?
Timber flooring is often associated with timeless design and the natural beauty of real wood, making it a popular choice for homeowners wanting a high-end finish throughout the home.
Is Engineered Timber Flooring Real Timber?
Yes, engineered timber flooring features a genuine timber surface layer, allowing it to deliver the authentic look and feel of real wood while offering improved stability for modern homes.
How Does Timber Flooring Handle Australian Humidity?
Timber is a natural product, so it responds to changes in temperature and humidity. Engineered timber flooring is designed with a stable core that reduces this movement, making it well suited to Australian conditions. Correct acclimatisation before installation and appropriate expansion gaps help your floor stay beautiful year round.
Can Timber Flooring Be Re-Sanded?
Yes. Solid timber floors can be re-sanded and refinished several times over their life. Engineered timber flooring can often be re-sanded too, depending on the thickness of its timber wear layer. This ability to refresh the surface is one of the reasons timber flooring lasts for decades in Australian homes.
What Is Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) Flooring?
Vinyl planking is a durable and practical flooring solution designed to replicate the look of timber or stone while offering reliable everyday performance. Commonly installed as a professionally glued-down flooring system, it remains a popular choice for modern homes.
Is Vinyl Flooring Durable?
Yes. Vinyl floors are designed for durability and are well suited to busy households, everyday living, and high-traffic areas.
Different flooring ranges can vary in performance depending on construction, wear layer, and intended use.
Is Vinyl Flooring Good For Pets?
Vinyl flooring is often a strong choice for pet owners due to its durability, easy maintenance, and resistance to everyday wear.
Many vinyl planks are well suited to busy family homes where spills, mess, and regular foot traffic are common.
What Is The Difference Between Vinyl Flooring And Hybrid Flooring?
Both vinyl flooring and hybrid flooring offer strong benefits, but they differ in construction, feel underfoot, and overall performance.
Vinyl planks are often chosen for their flexibility, practical everyday performance, and low maintenance, while hybrid flooring is commonly selected for its rigid core construction and firmer feel underfoot.
Can Vinyl Flooring Be Laid Over Tiles?
In some cases, vinyl flooring can be installed over existing tiles, provided the subfloor is level, stable, and properly prepared.
Surface condition, grout lines, and floor preparation should always be assessed before installation.
How Do I Clean Vinyl Floors?
Regular sweeping or vacuuming is the best way to remove dust and debris.
For heavier cleaning, use a damp mop or cloth with a mild detergent. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning products.
Is Vinyl Flooring Water Resistant?
Many vinyl flooring products offer water-resistant performance, making them a practical flooring option for busy homes and everyday living.
However, moisture should still be managed correctly, and product suitability can vary depending on the range and installation environment.
Does Vinyl Flooring Scratch Easily?
Like any flooring surface, scratches can happen over time depending on foot traffic, furniture movement, pets, and general wear.
Choosing the right flooring solution and maintaining it correctly can help protect long-term appearance.
How Long Does Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring Last?
With proper installation, maintenance, and care, vinyl floors can provide long-lasting performance for many years.
Longevity can vary depending on the product range, wear layer, and how the floor is used and maintained over time.
Is Luxury Vinyl Plank Suitable For Family Homes?
Yes. Vinyl floors are often chosen for family homes due to their durability, low maintenance, and practical long-term performance.
The right flooring solution will depend on lifestyle, traffic levels, pets, and overall design preferences.
Can Vinyl Planking Be Used In Bathrooms And Laundries?
In many cases, yes. Glue-down vinyl planking offers strong water resistance, which makes it a practical choice for laundries and other moisture-prone areas when installed correctly. Suitability can vary between ranges and rooms, so your flooring expert will confirm the right product and preparation for your space.
What Thickness And Wear Layer Should I Look For In Vinyl Planks?
The wear layer is the clear protective surface that determines how well vinyl planks handle daily life. Thicker wear layers suit busier areas and homes with pets, while lighter options work well in bedrooms and quieter spaces. Your flooring expert can match the right wear layer to each room during your consultation.
Is Laminate Flooring Waterproof?
Many laminate flooring products offer excellent water resistance, while some ranges are fully waterproof. The right option depends on where the flooring will be installed and the level of moisture the space is exposed to. For wet areas or homes where spills are common, a waterproof flooring solution may be the better choice.
What Is The Difference Between Laminate Flooring And Hybrid Flooring?
Laminate flooring features a durable wear layer over a high-density fibreboard core, while hybrid flooring is constructed with a rigid waterproof core. Both offer realistic timber-look designs and excellent durability, but the best choice depends on the room, your lifestyle and the level of water resistance required.
Is Laminate Flooring Scratch Resistant?
Laminate flooring is designed with a durable wear layer that helps resist everyday scratches and scuffs. While no floor is completely scratch-proof, quality laminate flooring performs well in busy households when cared for correctly and protected from heavy impacts.
Is Laminate Flooring Suitable For Homes With Pets?
Yes. Laminate flooring is a popular choice for pet owners thanks to its durable surface and easy maintenance. Regular sweeping, prompt cleaning of spills and keeping your pet's nails trimmed will help keep your floor looking its best.
Can Laminate Flooring Be Installed In Kitchens?
Many laminate flooring products are suitable for kitchens, particularly water-resistant and waterproof ranges. Choosing the right product and ensuring it is installed correctly will help protect your floor from everyday spills and moisture.
Can Laminate Flooring Be Installed Over Tiles?
In many cases, yes. Laminate flooring can often be installed over existing tiles provided the subfloor is level, stable and properly prepared. Proper preparation helps achieve a smooth finish and long-lasting performance.
Does Laminate Flooring Require Underlay?
Most laminate flooring installations require a suitable underlay. Underlay helps improve comfort underfoot, reduce sound transfer and support the performance of the floor. The recommended underlay will depend on the laminate product and the type of subfloor.
How Long Does Laminate Flooring Last?
The lifespan of laminate flooring depends on the quality of the product, how it is installed and how well it is maintained. Quality laminate flooring can provide many years of reliable performance in busy family homes when properly cared for.
How Do I Clean Laminate Flooring?
Laminate flooring is easy to maintain with regular sweeping or vacuuming to remove dust and grit. Occasional cleaning with a damp microfibre mop and a laminate-safe cleaning product will help keep the surface looking its best. Excess water should always be avoided.
Is Laminate Flooring A Good Choice For Australian Homes?
Yes. Laminate flooring is a popular choice for Australian homes thanks to its realistic timber-look appearance, durability and low-maintenance finish. With a wide range of colours and styles available, it's suitable for everything from modern homes to classic interiors while offering excellent everyday performance.
What Do AC Ratings On Laminate Mean?
AC ratings measure how much traffic a laminate surface can take. AC3 suits quiet rooms, AC4 is the sweet spot for busy family homes, and AC5 is commercial grade. The rating reflects the surface’s resistance to wear, so matching it to the room’s traffic is the single most useful spec check when comparing boards.
Does Laminate Flooring Fade In Sunlight?
Quality laminate carries UV-resistant surface layers, so it holds its colour far better than timber in bright rooms. Harsh, direct sun for years on end can affect any floor, so window coverings during the strongest hours are simple insurance in very bright, north-facing spaces.
What Affects The Cost Of Laminate Flooring?
Laminate pricing reflects the board’s AC wear rating, thickness and finish, along with the underlay, the size of the area and any subfloor preparation required. Higher AC ratings and thicker boards typically cost more and last longer in busy areas. An itemised quote makes it easy to compare options and find the right balance for your home.
Is Laminate Flooring Noisy To Walk On?
Laminate can sound hollow underfoot if it is laid without the right underlay. A good acoustic underlay softens footsteps and reduces sound travelling to rooms below, which matters in two-storey homes and units. We include suitable underlay in our quotes, so your floor sounds as solid as it looks.
